The “Softo” effect!

Those, living in Rawalpindi since last 30 years or less might recall a small shop selling Ice Cream in Saddar called as “Softo”. Well the shop and its owner has been there since my teens and is a favorite of any child living in Rawalpindi, including me, that is 🙂 And frankly there’s still a small child inside me that craves for Ice Cream any day specially if its stifling hot. So last Sunday while “She” shopped and I had nothing better to do than receive text messages each time the Card was swiped by “her”, got myself busy in looking at old/used books that still adorn the sidewalks on Sundays. Not much buying done except an old Urdu book. With time well past noon, the Sun smiled even more and the little kid in me begged for some Ice cream. His wish was deftly granted and lo I had this small cup, a Mango Strawberry flavor mix. Sat down myself on the pavement and started savoring the contents of this unobtrusive paper cup. Sure enough it was hot, there were urchins a lot more than usual, lots of traffic and suddenly the grey haired forty something was transformed in to a guiltless teenager enjoying the ice cream in the repressive heat.  Pretty soon nostalgia took over and the two score plus aged kid had a time he will not easily forget. Thank you “Softo” and keep selling those tasty cones and cups. Bless you!

Tehzeeb (Rahat Bakers) Cheeko Shake, undoubtely the best

IMG_20130818_000538

Tehzeeb (previously Rahat Bakers) in Rawalpindi has a reputation for selling the best ice cream in Rawalpindi/Islamabad. Besides this it also has an assortment of shakes on the menu. The best out of them is Cheeko shake. A glass of chilled Cheeko shake is as good as a meal. Whenever, I go to Pindi I make it a point to visit Tehzeeb Bakers for some ice cream and shake. Its always hard to decide what to order, the shake or the ice cream. A number of times I have ordered both. This time, I ordered a large scoop of Tutti Frutti ice cream for my wife and a Cheeko shake for myself. The agreement being that we would share. So after emptying my glass half I traded it with my wife for a half cup of ice cream! It was awesome, as always. Smile

Tutti Frutti: The new Frozen Yogurt outlet in Peshawar

Disclaimer: I have no affiliation with Tutti Frutti, nor is this post about marketing their stuff. I liked their frozen yogurt so decided to write about it on my blog.

The city badly needed a place where one could go for some ice cream or frozen yogurt. Whatever ice cream parlors that are here already, suck “big time”. I for one, am grateful to the guys for opening a good one. And also to God Almighty for listening to my silent prayers. A little ahead of Bhittani Plaza (which happens to be the in place in Peshawar nowadays) lies this new eatery specializing in Frozen Yogurt. Is small, neat, tidy and efficient. The ambience is one tad commendable. You go there and fill your cup from the six or seven flavors available there, ranging from Blueberry, Death by Chocolate, Vanilla, Cream and Cookies, Pomegranate, Orange and Banana etc. Also are at display a plethora of mouth watering toppings like bunties, chocolates, sauces, strawberries, peaches and other dainty stuff. Finally you pay by weight. I say if you are in town, do try it out.
