Tisas PX9 review

Hello there! Sometime back I wrote about the PX9, very briefly though, and about the latest imports in Pakistan. I got a few messages asking for a more detailed review of the handgun. So I was able to lay my hands on an NIB piece. Boy am I impressed? This handgun has amazed me. The piece being reviewed is chambered in 9×19 mm. It is a Tisas PX9, 18 shot, striker fired, manual safety pistol.

  • Caliber: 9 x 19 mm
  • Mag capacity: 18
  • Pistol length: 179 mm
  • Barrel length: 102 mm
  • Pistol height: 145 mm
  • Width: 35 mm
  • Pistol weight: 830 grams (approx)
  • Front Sight: Fixed
  • Rear Sight: Fixed
  • Safety: Manual Safety

  • Action: Single Action
  • Ambidextrous Manual safety, Firing Pin block
  • Changeable mag release
  • Loaded chamber indicator
  • Cocked indicator
  • Picatiny rails

So what’s in the package?

A lot, actually.

The plastic box kind of reminds me of the good old days when CZ guns were available in Pakistan. It comes in a very good quality plastic box.

Here is a photo of the pistol packed, with the whole shebang.

The pistol comes with:

  • Two 18 round mags, marked
  • A mag speed loader
  • A paddle holster
  • Cleaning apparatus
  • Two back straps
  • An owner’s manual

Over the years I have seen Turkish handguns improve in quality, by leaps and bounds. Impressive stuff!

Here’s a view from the other side. The quality is impressive indeed. Just ahead of the rear serrations is the loaded chamber indicator which protrudes when there is a round in the chamber. It can be felt in the dark as well.

See the ambidextrous safety.

The pistol has Piccatiny rails. I like the serrations on the slide front as well as rear. Very comfortable and racking the slide is easy.

Pistol take down is simple and easy. Just rack the slide, engage the slide stop and rotate the lever. Release the slide stop, press trigger and the pistol comes apart.

Here is a view of the slide internals. Very good quality.

The dual recoil spring, slide and the barrel.

The barrel as it is.

Here’s a view of the barrel. the bluing is excellent quality.

The frame is polymer, I can see the excellent quality, no tooling marks, very good quality internals.

The 18 round double stack magazine. With two mags you get 36 rounds, that’s a pretty good capacity.

The cocked indicator. It does not mean that there is a round in the chamber, but only shows the pistol is ready to fire. It has a simple three dot fixed sight system. Very good sight picture.

Final thoughts:

Are you kidding me? 🙂 Like I said over the years I have seen Turkish pistols improve in quality. Just seeing the features and the package it is an excellent bargain. A striker fired pistol with manual and firing pin safety, two 18 round mags, holster, changeable backstraps, loaded chamber indicator, cocked indicator, cleaning apparatus, ambidextrous safety, changeable mag release, picatinny rails, excellent quality, all in one place. I think this makes an excellent quality handgun. The Tisas PX9 was selling for Rs 165 to Rs 180k sometime back. Now the price has dropped in the Rs 125k range. In my opinion this is excellent value for money. Cheers
