Sometime back I bought a Lee Enfield No4 Mk1 rifle commonly called as the, three knot three (.303) rifle here in Pakistan. It is a good weapon of its times, very robust and sturdy. But as far as looks are concerned, its a total looser. I badly wanted to sporterize it, to improve its looks, make it lighter and put a scope on it. So I started work on it, as a project. After some efforts I was able to reduce its weight and spruce up its looks by removing the top portion of front end guard. I also sanded the stock and gave it a coating of linseed oil. The rifle was better looking but not very impressive.
Just didn’t like the long ears on the front sight.
Uglyyyy!!!
I searched the Internet and liked the synthetic stock by ATI but getting it in Pakistan was a big problem. No one in the US ships it here! Damn! So I stripped my rifle and got the metal parts sandblasted. After that I got it oxidized in a matte finish. Next I got a Monte Carlo style wooden stock made for it from Darra. I got a Refield 3-9 x 50 scope from US and hopefully will be getting an ATI no drill scope mounts and a Huberts Match trigger for it. I also sanded off the front sight form it. Here’s how the finished product looks like.
I also got a UTG folding bipod for it.
Like the cheek rest?
Front view of my “Brown Sugar”
Rear View.
See the checkering.
Like the wood work?
Any comments?
See there’s no front sight. It took me a week to sand it off. The matte finish looks so cool.
Finally I got a Pachmayr slip on decelerator for it.
I just love this rifle. After mounting the scope and adding a Huberts trigger I will take it to the range for testing. Hope you liked my “Brown Sugar” 🙂

Hello. I got this one made from a local shop here in Pakistan. I believe you’re in Canada. You can try https://www.marstar.ca/dynamic/index.jsp but they sell synthetic stocks only, or maybe chack Cabela’s.

That’s a nice sporter, but here in Canada that work would have transformed a gun that was worth over $1000 if it was all original…. into a gun that was worth about $400 on a good day. If you’d have stuck an ATI stock on it, the value would have been cut in half again. Like I said, its a nice gun and I am sure you will enjoy it, but I would have started such a project with a $100 hack job and left the unmolested Enfield alone, or sold it and bought a more modern firearm.

I agree. But here its available for $150 plus minus a few. So its basically a poor man’s choice of owning a nice weapon. Since I couldn’t afford a $2000 weapon I transformed it into a working thing 🙂

I guess its just regional differences. In Canada you can get a sporterized Enfield, a working thing, for less than $200, sometimes way less. Me and my brother split on a package deal a few years back… $100 for two sporters with scopes. They aren’t as nice as a $2000 weapon, but I like them a lot better than any of the budget rifles on the market.
